Intro to Centering Prayer by Zoom - CO of Madison
Time & Location
About the Event
Introductory Workshop—This introductory workshop is designed for anyone who senses a call to be with God in all of life. We will explore how to be attentive to and experience God’s presence and action within. For those new to this form of prayer, the workshop covers the basics. For those more familiar, this time will serve as a refresher and opportunity to experience the richness of praying this prayer with others. The introduction consists of four presentations on the topics listed below and two periods of Centering Prayer.
Four Weekly Continuing Sessions—A Saturday workshop is a good beginning, but for the daily practice of Centering Prayer to take root, we need the support of others. For the benefit of all, there will be four continuing sessions also on Zoom beginning at 6:30pm on Thursdays, April 29, May 6, 13, and 20. Continuing sessions consist of a period of Centering Prayer and a time for questions and sharing related to the experience of Centering Prayer.
Centering Prayer—Centering Prayer is a method of prayer which prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer. This prayer of silence consists of responding to the Spirit of Christ by consenting to God’s presence and action within. It furthers the development of contemplative prayer by preparing our faculties to cooperate with this gift.
Contemplative Prayer—Contemplative Prayer is the opening of mind and heart – our whole being – to God. Mature fruits of this prayer are a deeper caring response to the needs and rights of the human family and a deep respect for the integrity of all God’s creation.
